The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts sea levels could rise by up to six and a half feet by 2100, causing drastic increases in erosion, flooding and storms for communities like I.B.

Such a rise in sea levels could eventually impact 30 percent of the city’s property, 40 percent of its roads, an elementary school, the sewer system and more.

It all amounts to a major challenge for the city and its residents who want to protect tourism, recreation and the environment from coastal erosion.
