San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo is seriously considering running for mayor in 2028. He’s also looking to take another shot at raising the city’s sales tax — just months after residents shot it down.

On this week’s episode, Campillo joined our hosts Scott Lewis, Andrea Lopez-Villafaña and Jakob McWhinney to discuss the city’s budget deficit and future.

Our hosts also talked to Campillo about his future plans to get a sales tax on the ballot again. What lessons did he learn from of the failure of Measure E? Does he believe San Diegans don’t trust their government? How will cuts in the upcoming budget cycle affect the messaging?

He answers those questions and more. Plus! He’s got a hot take about the future of Balboa Park.
