Albert Einstein Academies Charter has long been known for being the only public school in the county with a 50/50 German language immersion program.
That program is now in flux, as our Jakob McWhinney and Alina Ajaz report, and some parents are frustrated.
School leaders recently notified parents they were reducing German instructional time. Parents began asking questions and soon realized instructional time had been waning for some time.
McWhinney and Ajaz traced the history of the Grant Hill charter and its unique offerings, the school’s decision to dial back its focus on immersion and parents’ pushback.
Fries with a Side of Rep. Issa

Yesterday, a flyer advertising a special pop-up appearance by Rep. Darrell Issa at a McDonald’s in San Marcos was making its rounds on social media.
One reddit user wrote, “I would like a big Mac, medium fry, and a town hall meeting, no ICE.”
The flier said he would be serving people in the drive thru. And anyone who attended would get “one complimentary Freedom Fries per order in drive thru from 12-1pm.”
Our Tigist Layne went to the McDonald’s to scope it out. The street was lined with protestors, but Issa himself wasn’t there. The event was real, a McDonald’s employee confirmed, but Issa was MIA, and they weren’t sure why.
Hours later, however, Issa made an appearance. Jonathan Wilcox, Issa’s deputy chief of staff and director of communications, told Layne that Issa did serve customers at the drive thru hours after the appearance was originally scheduled.
Issa’s appearance comes amid ongoing criticism from his constituents about his refusal to attend town hall meetings.
Last month, more than 800 people attended an “Empty Chair Town Hall” at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido protesting Issa’s refusal to show up at town hall meetings.

Hello. Just introducing myself. I’m Curtis Morrison, an immigration attorney, a Democrat, and a candidate for Congress in California’s 48th Congressional District. I’m still waiting for Issa to explain the purpose of this stunt? To remind voters he’s continually opposed raising the federal minimum wage?
