Thursday, April 28, 2005 | Girl Scouts San Diego-Imperial Council are sending 192,000 boxes of cookies and handwritten notes of support to U.S. military troops deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and other destinations as part of Operation Thin Mint. The first batch was sent last month to the USNS Mercy, a hospital ship assisting Indonesians injured by the tsunami. The public is invited to attend a send-off on Saturday aboard the USS Midway at 9 a.m. on the carrier deck. The ceremony is free, and attendees may purchase tickets to tour the San Diego Aircraft Carrier museum aboard the USS Midway.
