Responding to a series of armed robberies this weekend that she called part of a “spike of street crime” in her district, Councilwoman Toni Atkins has scheduled a series of safety-related community workshops.

Since August, San Diego police say they have documented a string of approximately 50 crimes in the uptown area in Atkins’ 3rd District. Police Chief William Lansdowne said at a press conference earlier today that his department is working on a “comprehensive plan” to address the issue.

“We need to take more precaution, we need to be more vigilant and more prepared,” Atkins said.
