The Unified Port of San Diego’s board will vote Tuesday on a proposal to hand out $792,000 in sponsorship money to a variety of local groups from the San Diego Symphony to the San Diego Sportfishing Council.

The largest recipient: The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl’s Big Bay Balloon Parade, which gets $155,000 from the port. The San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau will get $125,000.

Irene McCormack, a port spokeswoman, said the port gets visibility from sponsoring the events, which occur on the region’s tidelands.

“We have to get some benefit from it, and our tenants have to get some benefit from it,” she said.

The port will also provide another $284,000 of in-kind financial support.

The port commissioners are also expected to formally adopt a resolution opposing a replacement power plant being built on Chula Vista’s bay front. The port’s board had previously asked for that resolution to be drafted but commissioners said they wanted to wait for the full board to be present before voting on it.
