Thursday, April 12, 2007 | Re: Chick’s Controller Issues:

The District 4 councilman, Tony Young, is quoted when discussing whether the San Diego City Auditor should be elected after testimony of elected Los Angeles Controller Laura Chick as follows:

Councilman Tony Young also said he was unsure if the most popular candidate for a controller or auditor position meant he or she was the best fit for the job. “My concern is that who wins is the best politician with the best financial backing and not necessarily the person with the best auditing background,” Young said.

It is ironic that Young does not seem to recognize the same argument could be made for his own election to the City Council. Is he really the best fit for the job? And, for that matter, how many of his colleagues are?
