So far, San Diego Unified School Board member Shelia Jackson is the only candidate who has announced plans to run in the 2008 school board election. Jackson said today she would stand for re-election next year.

Like fellow board members Mitz Lee and Luis Acle, Jackson was first elected to the board in 2004 on a campaign that centered on the future of then-Superintendent Alan Bersin. Shortly after the election, the school board bought out the remainder of Bersin’s contract and sent the controversial superintendent on his way.

Acle said on Friday that he hasn’t yet decided whether he would run. Lee has said she will compete for a City Council seat.
