Today, after City Attorney Mike Aguirre’s press conference, Aguirre and a number of other people, including myself, jumped in the 13th floor elevator at City Hall and headed down.
A couple of floors later, the door opened. Police Chief William Lansdowne entered.
I think it’s fair to say there’s no love lost between the two men. The crowd in the elevator was well aware of that.
A weird moment of silence ensued.
The two then, to my surprise, shared some delightful banter. Aguirre chatted the chief up about some kind of event in Rancho Bernardo. The city attorney then complimented the downtown of Fallbrook, where Lansdowne lives. I think he said something about how the police chief should get a helicopter to make the commute downtown more bearable.
From the elevator, the two continued their chat outside, before cordially saying goodbye. The whole thing felt awkward. And not so sincere.
