The California Coastal Commission’s hearing on the proposed toll road through San Onofre State beach has been going since mid morning and shows no signs of letting up any time soon.
Hundreds of public speakers are waiting to address the commission which expects to conclude public comment at 8:30 p.m. Inside, the hearing feels like a formal government meeting. Outside, it feels like a concert. Protestors carry graffitied surf boards. Corn dogs and falafel are for sale. Inside, the crowd is largely respectful. And instead of shouting or applauding they jump, wave or shake signs in support.
The Transportation Corridor Agencies is currently giving its presentation on the proposal. Public comment is scheduled to begin soon.
We’ll have more on this later.
