Saturday, March 8, 2008 | Alex Roth, staff reporter of the San Diego Union-Tribune, has become the bane of Michael Aguirre’s life. Voiceofsandiego.org has properly chastised the City Attorney for his comments on Roth’s mental health.

However, on Friday, Roth wrote yet another piece on Aguirre — apparently his only assignment is to attack Aguirre — that made the front page including comments about my attorney Cory Briggs. He implied Briggs has some sort of unethical or illegal relationship with Aguirre using the same techniques he has accused Aguirre of using. He reports he twice called Briggs with no reply, suggesting Briggs did not want to talk to him.

Well, I gave Roth an opportunity to clarify those comments on Friday and he chose not to respond.

The fact is that Cory is enjoying a long postponed honeymoon in Antarctica and a good reporter would have made a call or two so he didn’t look silly using innuendo without even a factual basis.

If Roth wants to continue to crucify Aguirre, keep Briggs out of it.
