As of 1:35 a.m., Republican April Boling was trailing Democrat Marti Emerald by 280 votes in the race for the District 7 City Council seat. Boling led until the most recent figures were released.

Her largest lead was slightly less than 3 percent of the vote when the absentee results were released early in the evening. Emerald remained hopeful that high Democratic turnout in precincts south of Interstate 8 would push her ahead of Boling.

“Our consultant told us it would be very, very close,” Emerald said.

With 62.3 percent of the precincts reporting, Emerald had 15,126 votes (50.47 percent) to Boling’s 14,846 (49.53 percent).
