Thursday, April 16, 2009 | I am amazed that the council went with the drastic pay cuts for city workers. I know they know that a part of the city’s work force live in conditions that they wouldn’t put themselves in — ever. There are even some city workers who live in their cars already. I’m sure this will add to those numbers. It sickens me to see this. The real problem is that the mayor is too chicken to face the public. So instead picks on the smaller group of people that he has control over.
I have researched other city pay and benefits and found that most cities pay their work force more. And they have the same if not better benefits and retirement package. Why has this mayor been allowed to create a hostile work environment where the citizens of the city think that the city employee is the bad guy?
I just don’t get it. Raise taxes, face the public Mayor Sanders. Face the people who elected you and tell them, it’s time they pay more for the services they are receiving. It’s not the time to take away from the employee nor is it the time to make them your scapegoat.
They didn’t make this mess. People like the mayor made this mess and he’s adding to it.
