These two images are from my collection of photographs from several years of shooting the border fence at Border Field State Park, south of Imperial Beach.

I shot these during a July 2008 trip to the park, back when the second layer of border fence hadn’t yet been built. Today, it’s nearly impossible to get this close to the border, except in limited circumstances. Family picnics like these are now bygones of a different era of border security.

The image below came when I zoomed in through one of the many holes in the rusty fence, allowing me to peer into Tijuana.
