The slate of four Democratic candidates lined up against 15-year incumbent San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts didn’t have time on their side when they jumped in the race a week before the filing deadline.

They also don’t have money on their side. Roberts’ most recent financial statement shows that he raised $51,995.30 from January 1 through March 17. He has $109,406.96 on hand.

That’s a big hurdle for Juan Del Río, Shelia Jackson, Margaret Moody and Stephen Whitburn to overcome in time for June’s election.

I’ve contacted Del Río, Jackson and Whitburn for their financial statements — the county said Moody hasn’t filed one. When I interviewed them last week, none expected to have much money at this point.
