Starting Wednesday, the City Council is scheduled to hold at least seven meetings in coming weeks about the mayor’s proposed $2.7 billion budget. We won’t have enough time to follow every meeting, so we’re going to need your help to police this important discussion.
Our goal is to make sure that people cite accurate information while trying to influence the City Council’s decisions and that dishonest people are held accountable for their errors. The more people involved in the endeavor, the better.
If you hear residents or city officials or others make bold budget claims to bolster their positions, please tell us when it happened and what it was about. From there, we’ll investigate the claim, determine its accuracy and possibly write a story for the Fact Check.
You can find a schedule of the City Council meetings here and read the proposed budget here. You can attend the meetings at City Hall or watch streaming online video here. If you miss a meeting, you can always watch archived video here.
