What’s Happening
The creation of a ninth City Council district will dramatically change San Diego’s existing political boundaries, and diverse interest groups are lining up to advance maps that will make it easier for them to elect favorable candidates.
The Players
They include Latinos, Asians, African-Americans, LGBT, Republicans and labor groups, all of which want to claim greater political influence.
What to Look For
Some will win and some will lose. The final decision is up to the seven-member Redistricting Commission, which must file a plan by Sept. 15.
