I had the opportunity the other day to tour two really interesting museum exhibits, the two San Diego pieces of the Getty’s massive look at Southern California art in the decades following World War II.
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s show features huge, trippy rooms of light, complex reflective structures and even pieces that throw off the way your brain interprets color. The show, called “Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface,” opened a couple of weeks ago and is installed in both the museum’s downtown and La Jolla campuses.
The second exhibit is at the Mingei Museum. “San Diego’s Craft Revolution” features finely made furniture, uniquely designed mobiles and even some funky wooden speakers. That show opens in a little over a week.
