I thought about titling this post, “A Reader’s Guide to Our Election Day Coverage.” But this Engaged Voter’s Election Guide from Lisa Halverstadt — encompassing all of the best coverage of the candidates and issues on the ballot from VOSD and elsewhere — is the guide to end all guides. It’s too tough an act to follow.
Once you’ve studied that, here’s an overview of what we’ll be chasing on Election Day, and long into the night. Our priorities: the citywide races, including the mayoral contest, the City Council race, two school board races and Proposition Z. We’ll also be keeping tabs on the statewide education measures, Prop. 30 and 38.
Here are all venues we’ll be harnessing to get our coverage out:
The Site
As always, Voice of San Diego will be the main hub of our coverage. That will include:
• Photos: Sam Hodgson will capture the scenes throughout the city, and we’ll showcase them on our homepage in a slideshow, and within our stories.
• Stories: We’ll have a steady stream of blog posts and stories, especially once definitive results roll in. During the day, be sure and check in regularly as we bring you Voices of the Voters, a series of snapshots from all over the city (more on that in a moment).
The Streets
For our Voices of the Voters project, Lisa Halverstadt, Kelly Bennett, Megan Burks and Holly Pablo will hit the streets across the city to engage with voters on what issues they care about most, what motivated them to vote and who they’re supporting.
Their interviews will appear on Twitter, and we’ll round them up by neighborhood on our main site. Follow them throughout the day to see who’s voting and why:

The Party
As our Scott Lewis noted, “San Diego is special in how it gathers downtown at Golden Hall every Election Night.”
We’ll be nearby with our own VOSD Brews & News Election Party at Co-Merge, at 330 A Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
That’s where our reporters will set up shop to bring you news throughout the night. It’s also where we’ll have food, drinks and a series of fun interviews and conversations with interesting people.
We hope you’ll be there to chat with us and other VOSD community members.
Outside VOSD
We’ll be hard at work doing original reporting and analyzing each race. That means we won’t be providing incremental updates on the results as they trickle in.
The best place to find results will be the official sites for the County Registrar (here’s a mobile-friendly version for your phone) and the California Secretary of State.
