I wrote to Liz Hirsch to find out how the first few days of living in her new place have been. Hirsch became homeless last year and wrote to me in December just before she stayed in a shelter for the first time. We’ve followed her ever since, sharing her perspective on homelessness through her emails.
Friday, she moved into a room at a house run by Catholic Charities San Diego for homeless women 50 and older. She’s getting her bearings and blinking away the disbelief that she has a dedicated place to sleep and keep her things again.
“Now I am starting to feel like I’m not in survival mode as much,” she wrote Tuesday.
