“It seems like Filner’s life is a black hole, it’s sucking everything into it.”

Joel Hoffmann may have just arrived in San Diego, but VOSD’s new investigative reporter is diving into this absurd news cycle.

He joined Scott Lewis to record VOSD Radio on Friday morning, before Mayor Bob Filner announced he’d seek intense behavioral therapy. On the show, Lewis and Hoffmann explored what could happen during the mayor’s time off, and potential issues facing any recall effort.

Hoffmann comes to VOSD most recently from the Philadelphia Office of the Inspector General, where he was an investigator. At VOSD, his focus will include the county government, some county agencies and the San Diego Unified School District. Want to understand something in the county better? Let him know.

VOSD Radio named KPBS staffers as Hero of the Week for their interviews with Filner’s accusers. Goat of the Week went to San Diego Reader’s Don Bauder for his dismissive attitude toward one of the accusers. Listen here.
