Voice of San Diego’s Scott Lewis got each of the leading mayoral candidates on stage at the Birch Theatre in North Park Tuesday night, dispensed with standard debate decorum and directed a conversation between the four hopefuls on the future of the city.

What did Nathan Fletcher do at Qualcomm? Who supports raising the affordable housing fee? Does San Diego’s police department have an issue with racial profiling? Is it time to end free trash pickup for San Diego’s single-family homes? Is San Diego ready to move on from its pension crisis?

Without the usual debate rules in place, the candidates were forced to get real on the issues that matter most to San Diegans – though there were still a few landmines they shied away from.

Lewis knocked the candidates off their talking points in the only debate you’ll need to listen to before casting your vote for San Diego’s next mayor.
