San Diego has its first female City Council president. On Wednesday, the rumors became reality as Republicans teamed up to push Todd Gloria out of his seat, and voted Sherri Lightner in as his replacement.
After the vote, Gloria himself said the decision was politically driven and not based on performance.
VOSD Radio co-hosts Scott Lewis, Andrew Keatts and Caty Green touched on that and more from the week’s high-drama inauguration, including some very off-color remarks by a councilwoman’s staffer, and the response on Twitter to the upheaval at Golden Hall.

• SeaWorld CEO Jim Atchison is stepping down from his post after months of turmoil around the parks thanks to a damning documentary. The U-T reported Atchison will be collecting a $2.4 million payout when he leaves. Now’s a good time to revisit our SeaWorld quest from earlier this year.
• He may have lost his title as Council president, but Todd Gloria is our Hero of the Week. He took his defeat like a champion and according to this op-ed, he’s done a lot for communities in San Diego.
• Our Goat of the Week is Shirley Owen, a staffer for City Councilwoman Lorie Zapf for saying she wanted to shoot demonstrators at the Council inauguration.
