Last week’s Meeting of the Minds event exposed San Diegans to cool things being explored and uncovered in our own backyards. We zeroed in on discovery as a theme and invited innovative folks from the biotech industry, the stem cell research world, paleontologycultural preservation and the high-tech animal conservation movements.

I joined Voice of San Diego’s Scott Lewis and Andrew Keatts this week and included some of the best moments from each of the five speakers’ talks. No big deal, but a potential cure for diabetes, affordable and effective genome sequencing, contraptions that connect humans to conservation efforts, X-rays that uncover artists’ true intentions and dinosaur discoveries were discussed.

Also this week, Lewis and Keatts look into why Mayor Kevin Faulconer decided not to show up in person Friday to vote on SANDAG’s $200 billion, 35-year plan for transportation projects in the region. They dish on the candidates for city attorney, talk about a recent study rating San Diego’s lack of transit-oriented development and more.

Also, please don’t honk at kids standing at crosswalks. Lewis says is just ain’t right.
