The San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture is a city agency that works to promote and integrate arts and culture in the region, for both locals and tourists.
It is made up of 15 community volunteers appointed by the mayor and is supported by a small staff that’s led by executive director Dana Springs.
The agency acts as an adviser to the mayor and City Council. It reallocates a large chunk of the money it gets every year to local arts nonprofits, and it directs the city’s public art program.
In this week’s San Diego Explained, NBC 7 San Diego’s 7 Monica Dean and I talk about what the city agency does.
