An employee for a nursing home fined $80,000 for failing to supervise a patient who died in an incident last year just called to say that the home is in no way responsible for the death and that it will be fighting the ruling in the courts.

“We absolutely deny that we did anything that contributed to the patient’s injury or death and we are going to be appealing this through the courts,” said Shawn Laird, director of nursing at The Lemon Grove Care and Rehabilitation Center, a nursing home that provides care to patients recovering from strokes, surgery and serious illnesses.
