Interim Superintendent Bill Kowba is now the sole finalist for the permanent job at the helm of the San Diego Unified School District.

The school board will officially announce Kowba as their top pick today at an afternoon meeting. He is not officially the superintendent because the school board still has to negotiate a contract with him.

Kowba beat out two other finalists, former Hayward Unified superintendent Dale Vigil and Oakland nonprofit leader Debbra Lindo, after a public forum and private interviews. He has twice served as interim superintendent for San Diego Unified after overseeing logistics and finance in the district.
