Today’s inaugural events marked notable notches in the careers of several City Council members.

Now Tony Young can direct the council’s agenda as its president. David Alvarez and Lorie Zapf can vote as the new council members. Ben Hueso can tackle state problems as a new member of the Assembly. And Donna Frye, well, she can relax — at least for a while — without holding elected office.

Along with Kevin Faulconer and Mayor Jerry Sanders, each took a few moments today and reflected on their recent accomplishments and the challenges facing them next year (the budget, for instance). To help you understand what they chose to highlight, we asked for copies of their speeches.

Below, I’ve created word clouds of six speeches using those copies (Hueso was in Sacramento for his swearing in) and one word cloud that combines them all. Here’s how it works: The bigger the word, the more often it was said.

Council President Tony Young:

Councilman Kevin Faulconer:

Councilman David Alvarez:

Former Councilwoman Donna Frye:

Mayor Jerry Sanders:

Councilwoman Lorie Zapf:

All six combined:

Update: Lorie Zapf’s speech has been added to this post.
