We gave the four major mayoral candidates the chance to be photographed anywhere they wanted in the city of San Diego. This week, we’re revealing where they wanted to be photographed and why.

Carl’s pick: 54th Street and Adams Avenue, on a dilapidated street.

Why did you want to be photographed here?

This is Anywhere, San Diego. This could be anyone’s neighborhood, anyone’s street. And that has to be our next mayor’s mentality. That they want to treat every single neighborhood, every single street like their own. And when you come across a street like this, you have to say this is unacceptable and that we can do better. And so that’s why my mentality and my focus and the place I would like to be are places like this where clearly the services are failing our neighborhoods. City government has failed our neighborhoods. Streets should not look this way.
