Enjoyed reading your interview with Steve Erie (“Why San Diegans Are to Blame for the City’s Problems,” September 30, 2011). Hadn’t heard of him before, but it’s the first common sense I’ve heard discussing local politics in as long as I can remember. I think he’s mostly right in all he said.
Please keep revisiting him and keep his voice echoing in the ears of our public. San Diegans do, indeed, tend toward complacency. There is no other way to explain the recurrence of the kind of obvious, small time corruption that we get in our high political offices.
