It’s down to the wire in the 52nd Congressional District race between Rep. Scott Peters and Carl DeMaio.

As of the latest in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, DeMaio is leading Peters by about 750 votes.

Many of the remaining uncounted votes came from voters who received ballots in the mail but came into regular polling stations to drop them off on Election Day instead of mailing them in early.

The big question remaining is whether those ballots will look more like those of voters who come to vote at polling stations (they tend to vote Democrat) or like those of the early bird mail-in voters (who tend to vote Republican).

In this San Diego Explained, Scott Lewis joins NBC 7’s Catherine Garcia to crunch some of the numbers in the most heated San Diego contest this election season.
