San Diego County Board of Supervisors races usually don’t get a lot of attention.

For two decades, four of the five seats on the board have been filled by the same Republican leaders. But this year, two seats – including one that represents most of the city of San Diego – are up for grabs.

Several of the candidates in the race for District 4 say the county’s $2 billion reserves could be better used to address homelessness, mental health crises and other needs.

On this week’s San Diego Explained, Voice of San Diego’s Lisa Halverstadt and NBC 7’s Monica Dean explain this year’s Board of Supervisors races are getting more people’s attention.
