Fresh off re-election, Mayor Todd Gloria will not be getting a honeymoon period.
The city of San Diego is facing a $258 million budget deficit and he’s already announced his plan to “right-size” the ship since the failure of Measure E, a sales tax the city had hoped to pass. He’s proposing cuts to overtime and hitting pause on some capital improvement plans.
One big thing: Gloria is also halting plans to revitalize the Civic Center area.
That means that the idea that the city would leave the dilapidated City Hall building and move all city employees to one spot, isn’t going to happen. At least not for now.
Our hosts also take turns speaking to the mayor about what we can expect from his second term and how he plans to tackle homelessness, housing and the cost of living. He’s facing huge challenges ahead, so what will another four years look like for Gloria?
Bella Ross, our social media producer, pulls out her tarot cards for a special reading on Gloria’s political prospects and the fate of one of this biggest pet projects: the Hope & Vine homeless shelter.
