It’s dealmaking season at San Diego City Hall.

Our editor Scott Lewis has been closely following a push to raise the minimum wage for certain workers in the tourism and events industry.

That’s the ballot measure that would temporarily ditch California’s independent redistricting commission and allow Democrats to redraw congressional districts in their favor. The proposal, which is backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, comes in response to Texas Republicans’ recent partisan redistricting.

Meanwhile: Even before voters decide the proposal’s fate in November, some familiar faces are already lining up to face off with Rep. Darrell Issa for the 48th Congressional District.
