A coalition of 11 environmental groups today released an annual report card giving mostly bad grades to San Diego’s elected leaders.

Here’s a rundown of the assessment from the coalition, which includes San Diego Coastkeeper, the local Surfrider Foundation chapter and nine others:

  • Donna Frye: A
  • Todd Gloria: A-
  • Sherri Lightner: C
  • Marti Emerald: C-
  • Ben Hueso: C-
  • Kevin Faulconer: D
  • Tony Young: D
  • Jerry Sanders: D-
  • Carl DeMaio: F

What took a toll?

The coalition cited council members’ votes against recycled sewage and the council’s rejection of Diane Takvorian, the Environmental Health Coalition leader nominated for a seat on the Unified Port of San Diego’s board. (Takvorian’s organization sponsored the report card.)

Sanders drew criticism for cutting the city’s budget instead of raising revenues, not having a point person on environmental issues in his administration and pursuing an expansion of the city-owned Miramar Landfill.
