This has nothing whatsoever to do with my beat, but it’s interesting and therefore worth a quick mention.

In the course of doing some research into a story about downtown parking, I came across this blog. It’s a year-old blog dedicated entirely to the world of parking. Yep, parking.

Among the jewels to be found is a snippet about how parking attendants in the U.K. are being armed with DNA kits so that they can swipe a sample of someone who spits on them. According to the blog, spitting on parking wardens (as we call them in good old blighty) is becoming a real nuisance.

There are also entries on license plate recognition, parking taxes and what to do when you lose your ticket in an automated parking garage.

“We were musing here in Parking Blog about what would happen if, in an automated garage, like the one at Hoboken, a daily parker who had never been there before lost their ticket. How would one find the car?” reads that entry.

It’s worth a read, if only to know what people who “muse” about parking issues all day have to say for themselves.
