A canny KPBS colleague predicted that as a guest blogger for voiceofsandiego.org, I might find reason to reveal more about myself than I do as a KPBS host. “Sure,” I confidently replied. “No problem.” So, here it is – my first day on the job. And here’s the first inquiry from Don Wood:

Gloria:
You’ve done a good job of listening to both sides in this debate. Doug Manchester and Admiral Hering on one side and Peter Q. Davis, Mike Stepner and hundreds of opponents on the other. Could you do a blog entry giving us your own personal opinion after listening to all sides of this issue?

Thanks.
Don Wood

Oh, how tempted I am to provide Don and the world with my personal opinion on what would best serve the city of San Diego, its residents, and indeed the entire region. But tomorrow on “Full Focus ,” I’m scheduled to interview Mike Stepner, former dean of the New School of Architecture, now a consultant and lecturer, and architect Mark Steele, a member of the committee of designers who reviewed the project for the CCDC.

So, can you just imagine how skewed that interview would appear tomorrow if my opinion were revealed today. So, Don, I’m sorry I can’t comply with your request. However, I urge you to watch Full Focus tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., knowing that I will present myself as the honest broker, but that, being human, of course I have an opinion.

GLORIA PENNER
