A reader who noticed my earlier post on San Diego Unified School District’s new logo and naming preference referred me to a speech Superintendent Carl Cohn gave to employees in August.

Here’s a quote from that speech:

Beginning today, we are spelling out our identity so that everyone knows that we are San Diego Unified School District — emphasis on unified, collaborative and inclusive — with everyone treated fairly. …

We are no longer known as San Diego City Schools, although we deeply appreciate our positive working relationship with the City of San Diego.

As I noted earlier, a district spokesman denied that San Diego Unified has been trying to change its image and moniker.
