Theresa Quiroz, City Heights

Thursday June 21, 2007 | I watched both the Budget Committee meeting and the council meeting where the issue of cutting the city attorney’s budget was discussed. At both meetings, City Attorney Mike Aguirre had a large posterboard which detailed the positions that would be lost, should the cuts take place.

I think the neighborhood prosecutors are invaluable and I have fought for many years to get them funded. I worked with former City Attorney Casey Gwinn to get the first one in City Heights funded. But the whole council knew these positions were going to be cut if they voted to reduce the city attorney budget.

So let’s not pretend Hueso didn’t know exactly what he was doing, and is now just grandstanding for the sake of his reputation.
