Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 | The tail is wagging the dog in Chula Vista. How can the unions dictate what is built in Chula Vista? I would tell the city of Chula Vista and the port, “sign the deal and to hell with the unions.” Put it out to bid and go with the best qualified bids, union or not. Are we the East coast where union bosses control the jobs? Are we watching an episode of the “Sopranos?” If the environmentalists (that the unions say they control) cause trouble, then beat them in court and expose their true loyalties. I come from a union family, my dad, uncles and brothers were all pipe fitters. The unions serve a real purpose, but they have demanded too much. The common good of all of San Diego is more important.
