I was talking to City Attorney Mike Aguirre’s right-hand man, Don McGrath, just a few minutes ago when Aguirre’s absolute No. 1 critic, John Kaheny approached.

I thought I was going to get stuck in the middle of an Election Day buzzsaw. McGrath’s here representing Aguirre, who’s at Princeton attending his daughter’s graduation. Kaheny runs an e-mail list with one specific focus: Criticizing Aguirre.

Kaheny, a former military man, examined McGrath’s Blue Angels label pin.

“It’s my neighbor’s,” McGrath said.

But, surprisingly, everything was civil. They exchanged some more banter about their days in the military and Kaheny walked away. It must be the drinks that have everyone in a good mood tonight. Well, at least those whose candidates are winning or moving on to the next round.
