I was up early this morning to photograph the thunderous, 15-foot waves bashing the coast. Down at La Jolla Cove, one of the few spots that’ll hold swells like today’s, my lens slowly turned away from the two stand-up paddleboarders in the water (no, neither were wearing Scooby Doo suits.)
A posse of brown pelicans was roosting on a nearby cliff, some 50 birds, all perched, preening and, occasionally, closing their powder-blue eyes for a rest.
